Instant Pot Boiled Potatoes are so easy and turn out tender and perfect every time. Cook your favorite potatoes the easy way!

Instant Pot Boiled Potatoes

Instant Pot boiled potatoes are so simple. Use any kind of potato and follow the cook times for fluffy, tender potatoes. Just place a small amount of water in your Instant Pot with a trivet. Place potatoes in the pot close the lid and you are done. No more standing over the stove watching and testing the potatoes! Instant Pot potatoes are perfect for meal prep! The meal possibilities are endless.

Ingredients Needed for Instant Pot Boiled Potatoes

Yukon gold potatoes
petite red potatoes

The only ingredients you need are potatoes (of choice) and water.

How to Boil Potatoes in the Instant Pot

  1. Place the trivet inside the Instant Pot then add the water.
  2. Wash the potatoes and pierce each a few times with a fork. You can peel the potatoes if desired or leave the skin on. Place the potatoes in the Instant Pot in a single layer if possible.
  3. Place the lid on the Instant Pot and lock it. Switch the valve to the “Sealing” position. Press the “Pressure Cook” button, adjust to high pressure and cook Small potatoes- (fingerling, petite, etc.) cook for 5-7 minutes (depending on size). Medium potatoes- (Yukon gold) cook for 8-10 minutes (depending on size). Large potatoes- (russet) cook for 12-15 minutes (depending on size).
  4. Once the cooking time is up, let the pressure naturally release for 10 minutes before manually releasing the pressure. Unlock the lid and remove it.
  5. Use tongs to remove the potatoes.
  6. Serve as desired.

How Long Does it Take to Boil Potatoes in an Instant Pot?

Cooking time depends on the size of the potatoes.

  • Small potatoes such as fingerling and petite, cook for 5-7 minutes (depending on size). I cook my petite red potatoes for 5 minutes.
  • Medium potatoes such as Yukon gold, cook for 8-10 minutes (depending on size). I cook my Yukon gold potatoes for 8 minutes.
  • Large potatoes such as russet potatoes, cook for 12-15 minutes (depending on size).

Do you Have to Poke Holes in Potatoes Before Pressure Cooking?

Yes, I would recommend piercing the potatoes before cooking to allow the steam to escape.

Instant Pot Baked Potatoes with Crispy Skin

If you want baked potatoes with crispy skin, follow the directions for cooking. Then crisp up the skin in the oven on broil (watching the entire time) until crispy.

  • Poke holes in the skin.
  • Try to place potatoes in a single layer if possible for even cooking.
  • Use a trivet so the potatoes aren’t sitting in water and getting soggy.

Ingredients

  • 1¼ cup cold water
  • 1-3 pounds potatoes can use any kind of potato and any amount

Instructions

  • Place the trivet inside the Instant Pot then add the water.
  • Wash the potatoes and pierce each a few times with a fork. You can peel the potatoes if desired or leave the skin on.
    Place the potatoes in the Instant Pot in a single layer if possible.
  • Place the lid on the Instant Pot and lock it. Switch the valve to the "Sealing" position.
    Press the "Pressure Cook" button, adjust to high pressure and cook:
    Small potatoes- (fingerling, petite, etc.) cook for 5-7 minutes (depending on size).
    Medium potatoes- (Yukon gold or similar) cook for 8-10 minutes (depending on size).
    Large potatoes- (russet or similar) cook for 12-15 minutes (depending on size).
  • Once the cooking time is up, let the pressure naturally release for 10 minutes before manually releasing the remaining pressure. Unlock the lid and remove it.
    Use tongs to remove the potatoes.
    Let cool slightly and serve as desired.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 4-5 days.
