Carolina Gold BBQ Sauce Recipe

A tangy, slightly sweet, and spicy mustard-based sauce for drizzling on your favorite smoked and grilled meats.

Equipment

  • small saucepan
  • mason jar or airtight storage container

Ingredients

  • ¾ cup yellow mustard
  • cup apple cider vinegar
  • cup honey
  • 2 tsp Worcestershire
  • 1 chipotle pepper minced (add extra to increase the heat)
  • 1 tsp adobo sauce (from chipotle pepper can)
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper

Instructions

  • In a small saucepan, combine mustard, vinegar, honey, Worcestershire, chipotle pepper and adobo sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Heat mixture on medium heat.
    Bring to a boil. Reduce heat, stir, and simmer 5 minutes to allow sauce to thicken.
    Let cool. Serve or store for later.
  • Store in a mason jar or airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one month.

Notes

Substitutions:
Use maple syrup, coconut sugar, brown sugar, monk fruit sweetener, or similar sweetener to replace honey. If using monk fruit sweetener, use half the amount.
Use coconut aminos to replace Worcestershire sauce.
