Instant Pot Apple Butter is a quick and easy no-peel recipe. Thick, creamy, spreadable apple butter in about an hour. Tastes like fall in a jar!
The first time I made apple butter I felt like I was in over my head. I sat there peeling and coring apples for what felt like forever. I stood and stirred the apple butter over a hot stove. When I got to canning them, the jars I used were too large for the amount of water I had in the pot. I felt like the process was kind of overwhelming and time-consuming. But it doesn’t have to be that way. That’s why I love this easy no peel Instant Pot apple butter recipe!
Just place the ingredients in the Instant Pot, puree the mixture until smooth, then saute until thick. I made this recipe the first week of September. My husband came home from work and said “it smells like fall in here!” It tastes and smells amazing. It makes several jars full which makes it fun to share, devour, or store some for later.
Easy Instant Pot Apple Butter Recipe Ingredients
You can use maple syrup, brown sugar, or your favorite sweetener. For a healthier version, you can also leave the sweetener out and let the apples do the sweetening.
How to Make Apple Butter in the Instant Pot
- Wash, core, and quarter the apples.
- To an Instant Pot, pour in the juice, apples, maple syrup, vanilla, cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice, and cinnamon stick. Stir to coat the apples in the spices.
- Close and lock the lid. Turn the valve to “Sealing.” Press the “Pressure Cook” button then adjust the cooking time to 15 minutes using the + and – buttons.
- Once cooking time is complete, allow the pressure to release naturally for 20 minutes. After 20 minutes, turn the valve to “Venting” to release any additional pressure. Once the red float valve is down, take off the lid and press the “Cancel” button.
- Use an immersion blender to puree the apples until smooth. Alternatively, let the mixture cool slightly then blend in a high speed blender (this will give you smoother and creamier apple butter but may leave some air bubbles). Pour the apple butter back into the Instant Pot.
- Press the “Saute” button twice until the low press light is lit. Place a splatter screen over the top of the pot and stir occasionally. Cook until thickened to the desired consistency (approximately 25-30 minutes).
Will Apple Butter Thicken as it cools?
Yes, it does thicken slightly after it has been refrigerated.
What is the Difference Between Applesauce and Apple Butter?
Apple butter is a concentrated version of apple sauce. Spices are added and the sauce gets cooked longer allowing for the liquid to be removed and caramelization to happen. It gets thicker, darker in color, and more intense in flavor.
