Homemade Taco Seasoning is easy to make and ready whenever you need it! No sugar, no starches, and no ingredients you can’t pronounce. Just a perfect blend of spices and dried lime zest.
Why Make Homemade Taco Seasoning?
One day, I was looking at my store-bought taco seasoning packet and I couldn’t pronounce most of the ingredients it contained. That is never good! So I decided to make my own seasoning. I always like lime juice in my taco meat which was the inspiration behind this particular recipe. Made simply with spices you can find in your spice cabinet and some lime zest. It’s really simple to make and gives you over 3 store-bought packets worth of seasoning.
Ingredients
How to Make Homemade Taco Seasoning
- Zest the lime and allow the zest to dry out at room temperature or place on a baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes or until dry.
- Mix together dried lime zest, chili powder, cumin, paprika, garlic powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne (if using).
- Use as desired or store in an airtight container until ready to use.
How Much Seasoning in a Packet of Taco Seasoning?
A 1-ounce store-bought packet of taco seasoning contains approximately 2 tablespoons of seasoning. I like to use one and a half to two tablespoons of seasoning per pound of meat.
Taco Seasoning Uses
- ground beef, chicken, turkey, or plant-based meat
- sweet potato or cauliflower taco seasoning
- use as a fajita seasoning
- beans
- chicken

I have personally used the seasoning to make ground beef, chicken, and, jackfruit tacos, and whisked it into my eggs for breakfast.
