Fig Tartlets are a deliciously easy bite-sized appetizer. With flaky puff pastry, cream cheese, fresh figs, and a drizzle of honey.
I get really excited when I find figs in the grocery store. Living in Colorado, they aren’t that easy to find. My local grocery store doesn’t even carry them. So when I spot them I grab them up quick! This puff pastry appetizer can be made in under 30 minutes with just a handful of ingredients.
My parents came to town this week so we went up to the mountains to see the pretty fall leaves. We road on the Georgetown Loop Railroad. A 120-year-old steam train which scales the side of a mountain and crosses the creek. Each turn reveals more bright yellow aspen trees. It was such a fun ride and the perfect time of year to go!
Ingredients in This Fig Tartlet Recipe
How to Make Fig Tartlets
- Place the puff pastry sheet on a clean, lightly floured surface. Lightly flour the top of the pastry. Cut pastry into 12 equal square pieces using a knife. Pierce the middle of each square with a fork. Place one square into each muffin tin.
- Beat softened cream cheese, honey, and extract until smooth. Spoon a heaping ½ tablespoon into each pastry cup. Top with a fig half.
- Bake approximately 15 minutes or until the pastry is puffed and golden and the fig is soft. Remove pastries from the muffin tin (using a spoon to help scoop them out if necessary).
Top with a drizzle of honey. Serve.
How long does Puff Pastry take to Defrost?
Defrost the pastry in the refrigerator the night before you plan on making the recipe or defrost at room temperature for 10-15 minutes.
Variation
- Use different cheeses such as goat cheese, brie, or boursin.
- If fresh figs aren’t available, use fig butter or fig jam. Or other fresh fruit like pear, nectaries, or apricots.
- Add crushed nuts like pecans, pistachios, almonds, or walnuts for a crunch factor.
- Mix some herbs in the cheese like thyme or rosemary to make it more savory.
How to Store Leftovers
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
How to Reheat Puff Pastry
